Recently, I’ve really been digging into the new Beach House record, Bloom and I really like what I hear. Last night, the band paid a visit to the Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman”. Check out their performance of “Myth” below.

Tomorrow evening, The Musical Box will wrap up a world tour in which they covered the Genesis classic double concept album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The premier Genesis cover band will return to the Big Apple on Friday, November 23, for a performance in Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom. The Musical Box have been exclusively authorized by Genesis and Peter Gabriel to perform their masterpiece. The performance will feature all 1,000 original slide projections from the 1974 – 1975 tour. Tickets for the all ages event will go on sale Friday, May 18 at 12:00pm EST here. Peter Gabriel recently told Rolling Stone.com that he had a conversation with Phish about recreating the album with them for a Halloween show. Gabriel had this to say: “They (Phish) do these projects where they take an old record and do (perform) it. I had a conversation about The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway with them at one point.”They were thinking about it. That didn’t go anywhere, but… I sort of thought about it.”

Sigur Rós wants the whole world to hear their new album, Valtari. Tonight at 7PM in each time zone around the world, the Icelandic band will host a one hour long exclusive global listening party for their new album. They are also encouraging fans to use Instagram to document their own Valtari listening parties. And don’t forget to use the #valtarihour tag. Valtari will hit shelves on May 28.

St. Augustine Amphitheatre

Last night in St. Augustine, Florida, Wilco wrapped up their tour of the Sunshine State in a big way. The band tinkered with the setlist and delivered what looks like a monster show. According to a post on Via Chicago, the show wasn’t very crowded, but those fans missed out. Nels Cline played Duane Allman’s classic ’57 Goldtop Les Paul during “Impossible Germany.” Let’s hope some footage surfaces on YouTube. If you remember, Cline played the same guitar at a few Wilco gigs last fall.The power went out on the band during “A Shot in the Arm,” but the power would be restored and the band would finish the song. Wilco will perform next on Friday at this years Hangout Music Festival.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been five years since Wilco released Sky Blue Sky. Pitchfork famously labeled the album as “dad-rock” and while it definitely wasn’t the bands strongest studio effort, it has yielded some great tunes including the live favorite “Impossible Germany.” In honor of it’s birthday, let’s take a look at Wilco cranking out some dad rock from their “Live on Letterman” performance at the Ed Sullivan Theater last fall.

North Carolina folk duo Bowerbirds are riding high since the release of their critically acclaimed new album, The Clearing on Bloomington, Indiana based Dead Oceans. The band recently wrapped up a European tour, but won’t have much rest as they will begin a new round of US shows on June 7 in Baltimore.

Bowerbirds are featured in the inaugural edition of a new video series by Dead Oceans entitled “10,000 Takes.” The idea of the series is to capture outstanding performances by Dead Oceans artists. For the first release, producer Huiting and his crew captured the band performing “This Year” at The Cedar in Minneapolis.

The Wandering

With The Black Crowes on indefinite hiatus, Luther Dickinson has a little free time on his hands. But it didn’t take him long to fill in the void. The North Mississippi Allstars guitarist has teamed up with Shannon McNally, Amy LaVere, Valerie June, and Sharde Thomas to form The Wandering.

They recently released their debut album, Go On Now, You Can’t Stay Here, which was recorded at the Dickinson family’s Zebra Ranch studio in Coldwater, Mississippi. The album includes traditional standards and classic Americana from the likes of Robert Johnson, Kris Kristofferson, Little Willie John, Ray Charles, and Sid Selvidge. The group launched a tour last night and New Jersey and will play gigs in the Midwest and on the East Coast. The tour will culminate with two shows at Delfest in Cumberland, Maryland.
